“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) availeth much.” James 5:16
A PRAYER REQUEST September 21, 2012
During the War for Independence, the Continental Congress called for days of fasting and prayer in times of danger, and days of thanksgiving and prayer in victorious times. Our nation is passing through perilous times and needs the guidance of a loving God to bring us safely through these times of danger. Please unite with us and urge your family and friends to do the same.
“The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man (or woman) availeth much.” James 5:16
1. Wildfires – The number of wildfires being tracked by the National Interagency Fire Center has dropped from 41 to 29. There are still serious and dangerous fires in the Central and Northwest, but a 29% decrease in tracked wildfires is a cause for thanksgiving. Please remember to ask for God’s continued help with the wildfires.
2. Drought – The Western Regional Climate Center showed some improvement in the Lower Midwest, Southern Plains, the South, the Great Basin and Four Corners areas. The drought is far from over, but we should be thankful for the improvement shown. Please ask for the drought to be eased and finally stopped.
3. In June New Hampshire passed a jury nullification law which instructs the jury to judge the law as well as the facts of a case. This practice is an additional safeguard for the defendant against unprincipled law or judges. The first case in which this law was used was completed this week in New Hampshire. Please pray that this law will be passed in many other states in our union.
4. Friday, September 21st is POW/MIA recognition Day. As we pray for those of our military still missing and a blessing on their families, let us also pray that our military personnel may be brought safely and speedily home to their families.
5. We reported last week on the Federal District Court ruling banning indefinite detention without charge and conviction of a crime. On Monday, Constitution Day, September 17th, the Second Circuit Court of Appeals temporarily reinstated indefinite detention provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). However, a hearing before a three-judge panel of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals is scheduled for Friday, September 28th which may reinstate the ban. Please pray that the ban on indefinite detention without charge will be reinstated.
We have much to be thankful for and some new dangers present. Let us try to bring our lives into agreement with God’s law. If we will do this, then we can look with assurance for our land to be healed.
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” II Chronicles 7: 14.
God Bless America,
