May Freedom’s Rescuers Ever Be This Ordinary, by Kelly Gneiting
There is a warning in the New Testament worthy of our attention.
Peter and the other apostles were imprisoned by the Sanhedrin. Yet they were released by an angel and came a second time before the Sanhedrin council, bearing testimony that, “…We are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him.” (Acts 5:32.)
Some of the Sanhedrin sought to kill the apostles, but Gamaliel, a doctor of law, wisely said,
“Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men.” (Acts 5:34–35.)
He then cited two examples of other would-be preachers who “also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed [them], were dispersed.” Gamaliel cautioned:
“… Refrain from these men, and let them alone, for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God.” (Acts 5:37–39)
Put yourself into a time capsule and accelerate forward a hundred years from now, then two-hundred, then a thousand. Is NFL football still around? Are movie stars popular? Is socialism in vogue? Does tyranny and dictatorships remain the wave of the future?
Satan’s minions are expert in their craft. They have millions of methods in their arsenal to perpetuate deceit. Any ONE of them has the potential to derail you AND this work. Ezra Taft Benson said in 1977:
“A great struggle for the minds of men is now being waged. At issue is whether or not man’s basic inalienable rights of life, liberty, property, and pursuit of happiness shall be recognized… In undiminished fury, and with an anxiety that his time is short—and it is—the great adversary to all men is attempting to destroy man’s freedom and to see him totally subjugated. There are evidences of this struggle all about us. A system of slavery has imprisoned the minds and bodies of… the earth’s inhabitants.”
This brings up a vital question. Who will save the Constitution? Who will the Lord use to bring again liberty to the inhabitants of the globe? We know who the “Sanhedrin” is, but who are the Peters and Johns of liberty?
Will it be liberty’s Sadducees and Pharisees—those whom the world recognizes as “holy” leaders of civil equality and justice? Will it be those who make money off of the freedom battle? Will it be those who seek to be popular, or garner power? No. Has the Lord ever used those who seek the vain things of the world to do His work?
In contrast, who HAS the Lord used? Fishermen and shepherds are listed, as is Rahab, the harlot who concealed the spies Joshua sent to Jericho; Paul the Apostle is listed, a man who oversaw and consented to the death of the prophet Stephen; and a mystery miracle-healing disciple that Christ’ apostles forbade because he “followeth not with us.” (Christ rebuked his apostles for this).
Even those who struggle with the specifics of religion can appreciate the concept that God is a perfect being, and that everything that comes from Him doesn’t fail. His principles are eternal, and this applies to civil principles that preserve agency as well as religious values. Simply, there is truth in how to govern a nation which ensures a society’s prosperity into the eternities, and then there are Satan’s counterfeits and lies which cunningly attach an expiration date to a nation.
Said Jesus to a few folks in a ship, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men,” and they straightway left their nets. To Levi, sitting at his post at the receipt of customs, Jesus said, “Follow me,” and he stood up and obeyed. To the un-named woman having “sins, which are many,” who anointed Jesus feet with alabaster ointment, her tears, and her hair, Jesus said, “thy sins are forgiven… thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.”
THESE are going to be the same types of people God uses to preserve and restore the Constitution! I continually marvel at the way in which God works. Isaiah describes the doings of the Lord as “his work, his strange work; [to] bring to pass his act, his strange act.” (Isaiah 8:21) If God can use a donkey to confound Balaam, if He can use a rooster to reprimand Peter, if he can use a long-haired muscular fornicator to begin delivering the Israelites from Philistine rule, He can use you and he can use me as instruments in His hands to restore liberty—which is a work like no other. This is a work which is of God, and will NOT be overthrown, though haply others will be found even to fight against God.
You have this power! Satan and his minions do NOT. The word of God says that Satan has the power to bruise your heal, while you have the power to crush his head (see Genesis 3:15, GOD’s WORD translation).
If you shun the vain things of the world, hate injustice, and if you feel the voice of the Holy Spirit beckoning, “follow me,” that voice may lead to our doorsteps. This beautiful story of liberty’s preservation needs the ranks of the simple, the ordinary, the loyal… the valiant.
Remember, “they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name… who [simply] passed by” whom the Romans compelled to carry the cross of Jesus. What an honor! (see Matthew 27:32 & Mark 15:21)
May members of the Independent American Party ever be this ordinary.
