The Independence Pledge

Signing the Independence Pledge is the First Step in the Independent American Movement Process

Skip Down to the Pledge

See the posted article associated with this Pledge entitled “Ambition must be made to counteract Ambition.”

Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves are it’s only safe depositories.” —Thomas Jefferson

George Washington believed political parties were “baneful” (harmful). See quote at bottom.

The Independence Pledge is a call to “the people” to unloose their dependency on money and parties in electing representatives.  Political parties are single and separate from the government, yet their dominance is so extensive as to immobilize the minds of the majority of Americans, coercing a belief that nothing exists outside this “baneful” process (word used by George Washington, see quote at bottom of this page).

“A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.” —Matthew 7:18

It is our belief that the “good tree” is YOU, the people, and the “corrupt tree” is the party system of electing representatives, along with the money they use to influence and, essentially, purchase your vote.  The problem lies in that YOU, the people—the good tree, have placed your free will into the arms of the corrupt tree.  In essence, the good tree has become dependent on the corrupt tree, and corrupt fruit results.

The purpose of this pledge is to act as a first step in removing the influence of money and parties from politics by uniting the American people in seeking-out trusted representatives.

Hence, this pledge acts as a jaws of life first step solution in freeing Americans from this dependency— a power for evil our Founding Fathers knew of, and warned against.  John Adams mentioned:

“There is nothing which I dread so much as a division of the republic into two great parties, each arranged under its leader, and concerting measures in opposition to each other. This, in my humble apprehension, is to be dreaded as the greatest political evil under our Constitution.”  —John Adams

We in the Independent American Party encourage independent thought, and a reliance on NO party or institution that would promote dependency.  ANYONE can sign this pledge!  YOU NEED NOT BE ASSOCIATED WITH THE INDEPENDENT AMERICAN PARTY.

The Independence Pledge

The complete Independence Pledge is, purposefully, two-fold.  The first pledge is your commitment to the principles which our Founders stood for.  The second is a pledge of action.

Pledge to the Constitution:

“I, __________________,  do solemnly affirm that I will support and defend the Constitution for the United States against all enemies, foreign or domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of citizenship, so help me God.”

Pledge to Promote Liberty:

“Trusting in God, I, __________________,  solemnly pledge my unequivocal support to The Declaration of Independence, the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights; I commit to seek out and support only those individuals who are devoted to restoring and maintaining the sacred principles codified within these documents.  Specifically, I commit to invite at least one honest and wise individual to run for an elected political office every election cycle, so help me God.”

The IAP is slowly accumulating “Independence Pledgers.”  Once we reach the threshold level in your District you will be notified, and involved in the Process of the Independent American Movement (IAM).  You will receive occasional updates until this point, at which we will ask you for the information on the person(s) you recommend (and have invited) to hold office(s).  This person(s) will then be contacted, and invited into the IAM process.

We thank you for your uncompromising patriotism!

“I have already intimated to you the danger of parties in the State…  Let me now take a more comprehensive view, and warn you in the most solemn manner against the baneful (harmful) effects of the spirit of party generally.

The alternate domination of one faction over another, sharpened by the spirit of revenge natural to party dissention, which in different ages & countries has perpetrated the most horrid enormities, is itself a frightful despotism. But this leads at length to a more formal and permanent despotism. The disorders & miseries, which result, gradually incline the minds of men to seek security & repose in the absolute power of an Individual: and sooner or later the chief of some prevailing faction more able or more fortunate than his competitors, turns this disposition to the purposes of his own elevation, on the ruins of Public Liberty.” —George Washington, from his 1796 Farewell Address

George Washington would sign this pledge if he were alive today.  Will you?
